The Gratitude Book – What are You Thankful for in 2011?

December 31st, 2010 · No Comments · Amazon

Happy New Year!

One of the things that I’ve noticed as the years go by is that we don’t give thanks as much as we used to. Our society has become one where everyone feels entitled to what’s “coming to them”. We forget that every day, and every breath, is a gift to us. And when that happens, we forget how important it is to cherish everything and to thank those who have touched our lives.

The Gratitude Book Project: Celebrating 365 Days of Gratitude is a remarkable book where editor Donna Kozik gave 365 authors an assignment: write in 200 words or less what YOU are thankful for. The compilation is a wonderful one with thanks that range from one writer being thankful for the person who saved his life, to another writer who’s thankful for red chairs and carrot cake.

A portion of all proceeds from Amazon book sales goes to FeedAmerica, the ASPCA, Make a Wish Foundation and Women for Women International.

So what am I thankful for, in 200 words or less? Well, let’s see.

I thank God for giving me life and health and happiness and everything in between. I’m thankful that the wonderful Lisa is now in my life, and for my brother and sister and my friends who have always stood by me, accepted me and loved me for who I am. I’m thankful for having a nice job, for first snowfalls, for autumn leaves, and for mountain views after long hikes.  I’m thankful for all those in the world who do good for others who are less fortunate than they, including all the charities you see to your right. I’m thankful for wonderful parents who loved me more than anything, taught me well and whom I hope I am honoring the memory of in my life today. I’m thankful for childrens’ giggles and smiles from strangers I never knew. I’m thankful for Peter Luger’s steaks and fresh sushi and sweet grapes and watermelons. And—I’m not just saying this to suck up to you J— I’m thankful for YOU, that there are still those in the world who care enough to be looking at silly little sites like mine for ideas on how you can help others.

So what are you most thankful for? Leave a comment on this post (it can be anonymous). Trust me, it’s a very good exercise to do 🙂

Have a wonderful New Year!
