UPDATE: Unfortunately, it seems that this knit hat is almost impossible to find. If you’re desperate, you can try bidding for it on eBay–they are bona-fide collectors items, so the going price is about 2x to 3x their original price of $75.
In a previous post I mentioned the stylish Polo down jacket worn by the USA Olympic Team. Well, after searching far and wide, I found the super-cool knit hat which Team USA was wearing as they entered the arena during the opening ceremonies. It’s also made by Polo Ralph Lauren, and its available from the US Olympic Shop. It makes a fantastic gift, will be the single most stylish fashion statement of the season, and supports the US Olympic Team as well.
The cap is a knit cap with the U.S. Flag sewed between a blue pattern. The main part of the cap is designed with blue knit moose, trees, and other winter scenes. The top is a knit red and blue pattern, and a stylish tassel completes it. It’s one of the nicest stocking caps I’ve seen.
If you’re in the market for a knit cap, this is the one to get. But hurry, after the Olympics are over, this is going to be extremely difficult to find. In fact, it’s already the hottest item of the Vancouver Olympics…it keeps selling out on the US Olympic Shop web site, but keep trying.

I spoke with Ralph Lauren 800 number today about the hat – I was told they sold out starting to sell in September and if they get the bid in 4 years I could look and see if I like the hat they come out with at that time – Very nice of them – considering past companies who have gone out of their way to have items for the public – I guess when you are Ralph lauren – you’re just above that ……..

I think they should not have had this hat done by Ralph Loren, way too expensive for a knit hat. Not to mention, didn’t they know how popular it would be and that most of America would probably want one? US Olympics should have chose another sub-contractor. It’s adorable, but I’m sure someone else could have produced it, cheaper and MORE of them!!!

I hope the USOC will never again do business with Ralph Lauren Polo! “Imported” USA gear when American textile workers are laid off and our factories shut down. Certainly someone in the USA could have produced thousands of these for less than $75 apiece. The ostentatious use of the Polo logo was distracting and inappropriate. Was someone thinking they played that game in the Winter Olympics?
We all lost a chance to celebrate our pride in our team and our nation by the USOC selecting the elitist, overpriced, unresponsive Lauren’s to outfit Team USA.
